Are cataracts removed with a laser?
Although lasers are used to remove secondary cataracts (described below), common age-related cataracts are typically removed using ultrasound technology. This is the most advanced state-of-the-art method accepted by most cataract specialists today. Ultrasound technology, referred to as ‘phacoemulsification’, allows for a shorter procedure time and has a proven long-term safety track record. You can be sure that Piedmont Eye Center will provide the latest, most effective and safe method of cataract removal available.
