At Piedmont Eye Center, we want to make sure our patients have all the information they need to make a decision. LASIK surgery is a big choice, and often patients have many questions about the process. Below, you can find everything you need to know about LASIK surgery.
You Need to Qualify
Before deciding on LASIK surgery, make sure that you meet the necessary medical guidelines. Your surgeon will have the final approval, but below are some general guidelines:
- You must have healthy eyes – no glaucoma, infections, cataracts, severe dry eyes,
or any other condition that could slow or prevent the healing process - You must be at least 21 years of age
- Your vision must be stable for at least a year before surgery (no prescription
changes) - You cannot be pregnant or nursing due to changing hormone levels that can affect
the shape of your eye
You Will Need Recovery Time
While many patients see effects soon after surgery, it may take a month or two for vision to fully stabilize. During this time, you will need to protect your eyes. Immediately after surgery, your doctor will provide protective eye shields, which are to be used during sleep. Additionally, it is important to keep your eyes lubricated with artificial tears, and avoid rubbing them. Read this post for more on what to expect during the recovery process.
You Can Calculate Your Cost
Buying contacts each month can add up quickly. The average 20-29 year old can be expected to spend over $25,000 on contacts in their lifetime. However, LASIK surgery only costs a little over $4,000. You can calculate your lifetime contact lens and LASIK cost, as well as calculate your monthly payments, with our free LASIK Calculator.
You Can Learn From Past Patients
At Piedmont Eye Center, we have helped numerous people achieve the eyesight they have dreamed of. Hear from one of our satisfied patients:
After 25 years of dealing with breaking my expensive glasses or losing a contact while swimming and being half blind for the rest of the day, I decided it was time to make a change. I was ready for LASIK. Even living an hour and a half away there was no doubt that I wanted Dr. Bowers and his team to perform my surgery. –Bobby Moore
