We value our staff members at Piedmont Eye Center, and we want our patients to get to know them better! Each month, we introduce you to one of the people who keep our office going. Next in our “Meet the Staff” series is Michelle. Get to know her below!
What is your role at Piedmont Eye Center?
When I first started at Piedmont Eye Center, I was hired for the position of front desk reception. I wasn’t here long before I added the role of Health Event Coordinator to my job title. After one year at the front desk, I began training to be an ophthalmic technician for Dr. Bowers’s team. Once I became a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, I worked as a LASIK assistant, an immersion tech and the DMV Assistant. Two years ago, the need arose in the practice for an additional Clinical Research Coordinator. I began training for that position and this year I completed my training and became a Certified Clinical Research Assistant, which is my current position here at PEC.
How long have you worked at Piedmont?
8 years & 4 months
What do you love most about your job and why?
The ability to witness vision restored, if only a very small amount. Vision is taken for granted. It is only when the slightest amount is skewed that people even acknowledge their vision.
What is one thing you wish every patient knew?
Your eyes may or may not be the window to your soul, but they are the window to your health.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I have a passion for fashion with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising & Design.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one thing, what would it be and why?
Chapstick, because I never leave home without it.
If money was not a concern what would you do every day if you didn’t work and why?
Travel—anywhere, everywhere! I get bored very easily and crave new adventures.
If you could have dinner with any one person, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Hank Williams. I want to hear the story behind every sad, ole country song he wrote in his short 29 years on Earth.
Coke or Pepsi?
Coke.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee.
Do you have any words of advice to share?
“Whatever you do today, you’ll have to sleep with tonight.”
