Meet Casey

January 25, 2020

We value our staff members at Piedmont Eye Center, and we want our patients to get to know them better! Each month, we introduce you to one of the people who keep our office going. Next in our “Meet the Staff” series is Casey. Get to know her below!

What is your role at Piedmont Eye Center?

I was first hired in preparation for Dr. Javey’s arrival. I was first trained as a scribe/technician on Dr. Saxton Moss’s team, then I started working with Dr. Javey, helping in all aspects of her clinic for about five years where I learned all about the retina world. I’m currently working with Dr. Bowers and his team, and still have things to learn after my eight years with Piedmont Eye Center. I help patients with routine exams, evaluations and measurements for cataract surgery patients and, of course, iLASIK™. On the days Dr. Bowers is in surgery, I often fill in where needed on other clinics, training newer technicians and triage.

How long have you worked at Piedmont?

8 years.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I get to help people with one of our most precious gifts, vision. I have met many wonderful people that I will always cherish. Also, there’s always something new to learn.

What is one thing you wish every patient knew?

Our job is not easy. We work very hard to anticipate the needs of our patients and doctors. Trying to be productive, friendly and efficient at the same time is a bit challenging at times.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love to be outside in the sun! I love to spend time with my sweet little boy and girl (who many of our patients know by name and always ask about them, since they saw me through both of my pregnancies). Though it’s hard to believe, except for those who really know me, I love to clean and organize.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one thing, what would it be?

The Bible! As long as I have the Word I will always know what’s truly important!

If money was not a concern, what would you do every day if you didn’t work?

So much! I’d still want to help people somehow. I’d love to be able to be creative and make things with my husband—he loves to build and I love to paint and we both have all kinds of ideas—maybe if we ever get to retire (hahaha). Also, I’d be able to spend more time with my little ones!

If you could have dinner with any one person, living or dead, who would it be?

This one is tough, picking just one is hard. But my very first thought is my Granny, who we lost a little over 6 years ago. She was a very special lady and I wish that I could sit down with her just one more time to talk about all kinds of things.

Coke or Pepsi? Coffee or Tea?

Well, I don’t drink soda but I love my coffee in the morning and oftentimes in the afternoon, too. I also love green and chai tea!

Do you have any words of advice to share?

Life here on earth is not always easy. The key is Jesus, it’s that simple! If you do not know Him as your Lord and Savior, take a minute to ask Him into your heart! Then, and only then, will you truly find joy and peace.
