Meet Tyler!

May 02, 2022

At Piedmont Eye Center, our wonderful staff plays a huge role in providing an excellent patient experience, and we love to introduce you to them. This month, we’d like you to meet Tyler!

What is your role at Piedmont Eye Center?

I’m one of Dr. Saxton Moss’s techs as well as the OSHA Coordinator.  So I maintain the autoclaves and the biomedical waste disposal, amongst many other things.  The staff here know me best for my ever growing email series on sharps container disposal, which I’m told is all the rage.

How long have you worked at Piedmont?

 Around 2 years

What do you love most about your job?

Meeting and talking with patients is the best part of my day.  My last job had me answering emails all day and so this is a much better change of pace.  Except for that one patient that always gets mad when we ask their birthday, you know who you are.

What is one thing you wish every patient knew?

Yes, we can fix your cataracts.  No, we cannot give you the eyesight you had when you were 18.  And however many artificial tears you use throughout the day, it isn’t enough, use more.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I’m a bit of a cinephile so I’m always watching old movies.  I also really enjoy hiking, kayaking, and target shooting, although I don’t do them as much as I’d like.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one thing, what would it be?

A satellite connected laptop with a solar charging pad, not necessarily to get help but more so that I could watch survival YouTube videos.

If money was not a concern what would you do every day if you didn’t work?

I would collect, preserve, and occasionally use historic firearms from across the globe and different eras; everything from matchlocks to modern polymer repeating arms with everything in between.  I do this a bit already but money is definitely the main limiting factor in growing my collection.

If you could have dinner with any one person, living or dead, who would it be?

Christopher Hitchens, I definitely don’t agree with him on everything but he has such a staggering intellect that I’d love to be able to pick his brain.

Coke or Pepsi?  Coffee or tea?

Coke, but it has to be in a glass bottle and made in Mexico, the cane sugar makes a world of difference.  And tea since it doesn’t have as much caffeine, unless its post-op day in which case a double espresso.

Do you have any words of advice to share?

Just keep swimming!  You’re not the only one trying to keep your head above water and as long as you just keep pushing ahead you’ll do fine.
